Llanelli & District Model Engineers (LDME) members are all volunteers who give their time and skills freely to the running of the club and its’ activities.

The organisation exists to promote Model Engineering as a hobby for the advancement of/and to educate the public about the heritage of railways and engineering skills through the construction of model locomotives. The provision of displays, rallies and demonstrations including facilities for the fabrication, maintenance and running of the engineered models.

Also to provide support and encouragement to like-minded people interested in the building and operation of engineering models.

In 1986 The club was invited by the local authority to move our activities to Pembrey Country Park from our former location in Llanelli town.

Today we are very fortunate in being based in such a beautiful park, approximately twenty to thirty minutes’ drive from Llanelli or Carmarthen where mainly during school holidays in the Spring and Summer we run the railway on, Saturdays and Sundays (subject to weather and staff availability) and provide the young and old with a railway experience with a train ride using steam locomotives as often as is possible.

We do this on our ground level 5” and 7 ¼” track, or alternately on the elevated 3 ½” and 5” gauge track, and at busy times we can use both.

Our sole means of raising revenue is by public fares, and all money raised is invested back into the railway, to further improve customers experience.

We run two rallies a year, Spring & Autumn, the Autumn Rally has grown into a very prestigious event, with traction engines, classic cars, vintage buses to name but a few of the attractions, we also have a Steam Gala in August, where we have invited guests who will public run using their steam locomotives.

Our clubhouse which is the central point of our activities is situated by the main railway station and within both circuits of track.  The club had leased the site from the local authority where we have built approx. 1220m of ground level, 5” and 7 1/4” inch gauge track and its’ ancillary services, we have also refurbished 490m elevated 3 1/2” and 5” inch miniature railway track.
