Wighty
Well done to Hornby for releasing a locomotive to celebrate Her Majesties reign - but wouldn't it have been better to release a more appropriate loco than a freelance industrial loco - with HM partaking in the reopening of the Borders Railway today an A4 and a Royal Coach maybe - or a freelance named Railroad Class 47 in Royal train Claret maybe? pidder
Is there a Class 47 named Queen Elizabeth II in royal train claret, if not, there should be, even if only in model form.
walkingthedog
There's a Cunard liner named after her, far better.
SilverLady
I, for one, would love an A4 and Royal Coach as suggested by Wighty!
RB51
There's a Cunard liner named after her, far better. I would have to agree - I've been on her and had a fabulous time. Unlikely to get on a Royal train but sure would love one as has been suggested here. R-
walkingthedog
They could do all the royal trains.
Graskie
There was, of course, the Coronation Class loco 46221 "Queen Elizabeth" which was named after her Majesty's mother, but wouldn't it have still been somewhere near appropriate perhaps to issue a model of that? poliss
What about that red one with the tapered boiler?

2e0dtoeric
The hull might be finished, but there is a lot of fitting-out to do, before it becomes self-propelled. Nothing to do with railways or the original question, though!
walkingthedog
Yes correct on both counts. I suppose if they were making a loco it had to be an industrial one because there's a pretty good chance one was named Queen Elizabeth.
Shaun the A4 engine
then paint the A4 cab in white colour (wow very rare LOL) and make it member exclusive?

JeremiahBunyan
Nice little loco.... But I feel that the body is more accurate the Thomas the Tank Engine that what Hornby currently offer (which is too long). Wish this model was a 0-6-0. Coul've had a more accurate Thomas..... Postman Prat
Only in Britain would they build aircraft carriers without any available aircraft !!! Like when they electrfied from Leeds to Skipton - the government gave BR the money for the electrification but wouldn't provide funds for the trains !! walkingthedog
No the Russians did it as well. Germany almost did it in WW2.
Postman Prat
That's why we tried to flog Harriers to the Ruskies (not true as far as we know) At least the Germans knew what aircraft they intended putting on it. The Sea Harrier would have kept things going till the planned aircraft came along. By the time the new aircraft come along all of the 'fixed wing' expertise in the RN will have been lost. Do you sometimes wonder if the members of the government (any party) have ever actually read a history book? Or are they still struggling with 'Janet & John? walkingthedog
Struggling is just about right. There's quite a few RN pilots test flying the F35 is the U.S. of A.
Postman Prat
By the time they get the F35 over here the pilots will have a) Forgitten how to fly them or b) Retired. Either that or they'll be obselete by then.
