GWR Greg
I have 1.62 running under W10. It refuses to connect to the internet despite the fact that browser, email etc do. Full exception set up on Norton. No other programmes running. Anyone got a suggestion. Am awaiting RM to investigate.
Nick_
Don't use Norton?
Fishmanoz
Yes, turn it right off and see if it makes a difference. Chances are there is more to do in stopping Norton interfering and, if it works with Norton off, that will prove it.
Yelrow
Greg, i have norton, , running all the time. Makes no difference to RM. john
Fishmanoz
That's because it is correctly set up as a full exception John, something that is not necessarily easy to do for some, and I think done for you? The simple proof of the pudding is my suggestion to turn it off and try.
GWR Greg
Norton is not the problem. I have previously tried switch it off and it makes no difference.Since uninstalling and reinstalling RM to sort out slow loading it refuses to connect to the internet. It took a while to get it to deregister and then register. The green icon at the top of the RM screen stays off and there is a wait when loading while it tries to check for updates. Once it gives up loads quickly.
Teedoubleudee
Ar you using a wireless connection or lan cable direct to router?
GWR Greg
My notebook does not have a LAN cable connection. Wireless only.
Yelrow
Greg is your notebook, general purpose, or RM only, eg, dedicated. With my dedicated one, with usb, you click RM, up comes norton, which you click, then please wait, then search for updates, and finally, it finds elite and connects. Whole process about 2 mins. It was certainly quicker before 1.62., not that i mind, as have an elite. I am inclined to think that a dedicated machine, is the way to go, as there is nothing else in it, to conflict. I only mention it cos you can pick one up a laptop with XP, , and usb connection, which has always been superb with rm, very cheaply, and it would free your notebook, for portable use.. I dont think wifi, is as reliable, as usb. john
GWR Greg
Hi John My notebook is general purpose. I assume when you say USB you mean LAN? USB is used for connection to elink. Cannot connect to router via LAN as no LAN socket on notebook. HRMS want to connect to notebook to try and figure it out also to solve no short circuit reset window. Will try and connect with HRMS on Monday am.
Yelrow
Greg, i understand you cannot connect your router to Notebook, by cable, hence my dedicated laptop suggestion. That way your notebook is no longer involved with RM. Several of , do this. Usb to elink, ethernet to router. All cables. May be a thought once your present problem solved. I cannot use wifi as my router wont go through house walls, so run a 50 yard ethernet cable when i need to connect for an update. Us old fashioned guys, prefer the cable, to eliminate any possible problem. john
ColinE
Maybe nothing to do with your current situation but I just had the problem of not being able to connect RM to the Internet. For some strange reason my internet network (I use a non internet network for running the railway normally and only connect to the 'live' network for updates) had an ip conflict which by changing the computer to auto IP address temporarily solved the problem. Fishmanoz
Colin, is it that you had it set static so you can run a handheld? If so, I think you must have set it to an address within your routers range of addresses for setting automatically and it has then used that address. Hence the conflict. Take a look at the last post from PJR_slo in the Static IPs thread.
ColinE
Colin, is it that you had it set static so you can run a handheld? If so, I think you must have set it to an address within your routers range of addresses for setting automatically and it has then used that address. Hence the conflict. Take a look at the last post from PJR_slo in the Static IPs thread. All my devices on both my networks have static ip addresses allocated to them and have done so since I purchased the handheld license. I had internet connection to my computer but Internet Explorer would not connect to powerpos with an error message appearing saying IP address conflict, contact your service supplier. I thought this was a glitch so I changed the computer back to an auto IP address and downloaded what I needed. A few days afterwards I returned it to its static address and it appears to be running OK. No explanation other 'it's a computer !!!!!!!!'
GWR Greg
HRMS have now on logged onto my notebook. After well over an hour the short circuit issue was resolved. Tried uninstalling Norton completely. Made no difference to internet connection issue. It looks though the problem is the notebook. Unfortunately the short circuit issue has not gone away. Can work round this issue simply by hitting red reset dcc controller button. As to internet just have to manually download updates. To finish I appear at the moment to have defeated the very helpful HRMS!
