DCC eLink Power Pack

I would advise against it on many different levels.

.

Firstly the output of the LSP-1205 is variable from 1 volt to 20VDC. The input of the eLink is 15 VDC. It would be all too easy for the output knob of the LSP-1205 to be nudged and cause the output voltage to exceed the safe input level to the eLink.

.

Secondly, the output of the LSP-1205 is max 5 amp. The eLink PSU is rated at 1 amp, but compatible with Hornby’s own 4 amp PSU as an upgrade path. Exceeding a 4 amp rating may damage the eLink in a track ‘short circuit’ situation.

.

Thirdly, the output of the LSP-1205 is 4mm banana plug. This would need converting to a DC connector that is 6.3mm x 3mm. This particular size of DC connector is not common and difficult to source.

.

Fourthly, the LSP-1205 is designed as a bench power supply unit for general power supply requirements. It is a ‘switch mode’ power supply. Switch mode power supplies can generate a very noisy output. Power supply noise can be detrimental to digital signal electronics. The output of the Hornby power supplies are designed to be ‘fit for purpose’. Not using the Hornby PSU would breach any eLink warranty that may still be valid.

.

Fifthly, why would you want to. There is NO cost saving. The LSP-1205 is £82.80 inc VAT (£69 ex VAT). The Hornby 4 amp PSU (P9300) is £38 inc VAT (follow red hyperlink for Hornby P9300 PSU details).
