Midimat Digital Set Up

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I would like to build a digital set-up based around the midimat with trackpacks a-d (for starters anyway! ;-) ).

Is there a list anywhere of all the extra kit I would need to buy to set this up, please (not including scenery or rolling stock - just the switches, transformers, laptop programmes etc)?

Many thanks,

Ian

Hi Ian, welcome to the forums.  What you need is a basic oval, track packs A to D, DCC point clips for each point, a power track or clip and a DCC controller.  That's it for a start.

Hornby controllers are the basic Select, fully functional Elite, or the fully functional Railmaster (RM) software on a PC/laptop plus the eLink interface.  You don't need RM with Select or Elite, although Elite will work with it instead of eLink, but Select won't.

Many any people get their trackmat, basic oval, power track and controller by first buying a train set including these, then all you will need extra is the track packs.  Trains sets come variously with Select or RM/eLink, but not Elite.  Check out the shop on DCC sets.

Buying the train set as a starter works out cheaper than buying the componant parts. Start off with a set with a select controller, you don't need a computer to run it, and it can be used as a walkabout later if you upgrade to the elite. Track packs that you don't get in your set will be sold seperately, (some come with track pack a already in them,) and don't forget the point clips.
