Drewe Manton
Straight from the box, what you see is what you get except for the cannon barrels which are brasshttp://i1053.photobucket.com/albums/s463/Dmanton300/Spitfire%20vb%20airfix%2048th%20malta/01_zps9hlij9gv.jpg http://i1053.photobucket.com/albums/s463/Dmanton300/Spitfire%20vb%20airfix%2048th%20malta/02_zpsr5q3nxnb.jpghttp://i1053.photobucket.com/albums/s463/Dmanton300/Spitfire%20vb%20airfix%2048th%20malta/03_zpsf13mnthd.jpghttp://i1053.photobucket.com/albums/s463/Dmanton300/Spitfire%20vb%20airfix%2048th%20malta/04_zps9q0eh9y6.jpghttp://i1053.photobucket.com/albums/s463/Dmanton300/Spitfire%20vb%20airfix%2048th%20malta/05_zpswbqfupmb.jpg
Jonathan Mock
The camo scheme on that Buck McNair's aircraft is unique - according to contemporary notes, they mid stone areas were overpainted in a lovly mixed grey, leaving a dark earth/grey camouflage. There is some debate over the underside colours, some say sky, others azure blue or thereabouts.
nigel_poole
Like the look of that Drewe. Unusual colour scheme I've not seen before.
Jonathan Mock
That should have read "the mid stone areas were overpainted in a locally mixed grey, leaving a dark earth/grey camouflage." Oddly, it does look a bit like some colour photos of the FAA's temperate sea scheme.
Drewe Manton
It surprises me when I look at it just how similar to dark slate grey/extra dark sea grey it looks! Really throws how "green" dark earth can look into perspective!
Jonathan Mock
If you remember the controversy over the colour pic that appeared on the cover of Ted Hooton's Spitfire Special book? Oddly, that does look very much like dark earth and grey, though it's actually a poorly colour balanced image.

Drewe Manton
Never saw the book, but know the scheme has been the subject of much passionate debate over the years!
