david_fleming
Did you do anything to differentiate between the natural metal areas and the silver painted areas under the fuselage? Glad you posted these, they are fantastic
Drewe Manton
Thanks Dave, it's amazing how good sound basic techniques can make that kits look, isn't it?
Jonathan Mock
Overwing tanks always look aeronymically mad, but then the Lightning was an exceptional aeroplane.
Drewe Manton
I guess it's one f those "needs must" developments due to undercarriage location. . .
peebeep
A very dynamic looking pose. Overwing tanks look odd, but that's because it's so uncommon.

Dad Paul B
Looks lovely. I have just started mine (going for 1960s 74 Squadron). It does show just how long these birds were in service - even surviving into the air defence grey era at Binbrook. They were amazing (and insanely fast, and noisy) but you needed a few tankers to keep them in the air.The new tools look lovely and a very builder friendly; my son did the F2 solo and got pretty good results and he is only 7. I am really looking forward to this one as this was always a favourite of mine. I got to see them flying at the Biggin Hill shows in the 70s. Until I saw the new kit I had forgotten just how big they were.A couple of really inspriational posts. Thanks Drewe.By the way my understanding is that the overwing tanks were for ferrying only and not to extend the combat range or let them fly at Mach 2+ for more than 10 minutes. Drewe Manton
Yeah the tanks were never used for anythikng other than that really, the upward momentum of the seperation caused damage to the wing structure
nigel_poole
A striking build. Other than the Lightning and Jaguar. Did any other aircraft ever adopt an over wing ethos of carriage ?

The Skyshadow one always amused me as the TSR2 was so big as it had to carry that stuff internall!
