Tinkling Tel
What a cock up the rollout of the B17 Locomotive Barnsley has been from start to finish, from the design to the choice of manufacturing factory. When are Hornby going to realise we would like this in LNER livery and not just boring BR colours. Also why do they not realise there is a market for the footballer class loco in every teams name but sticking to factual loco names of the ones that actually went into service.Come on Hornby and produce Barnsley in LNER livery and do a series of all the other football clubs,Man Utd etc would sell thousands but do this one first. You are a million miles away from knowing what your customers want. walkingthedog
Do you really think so? I've got the limited edition Man U From the Hornby magazine but only got it because of the price and I like the loco. Name meant nothing to me. Do agree though that it's a bit strange that they stick to BR.
dynax
no interest in football, so i would not buy one just on the livery and name,
walkingthedog
Me neither dynax, the name means nothing. Could have been called Eric for all I care.
dynax
i buy locos i like, period, livery, names, makes no difference, although i am buying more of the tts versions, but i am going to do something with my non sound locos to make them more interesting, they will get a new paint job, but using custom candy metallic paints, like the old hotrods, with matching rolling stock, that will get some tongues wagging lol,

Postman Prat
Me neither dynax, the name means nothing. Could have been called Eric for all I care. There's a Black 5 at the NYMR named 'Eric Treacy', the name being afixed in the preservation era. Is that the one you mean? I agree with you and Dynax
walkingthedog
I know that loco PP, I always say Eric when suggesting a name, not sure why. e.g. 'what was the name of that town we stayed in in Arizona?' If I don't know the answer my response is 'Eric'.

2e0dtoeric
WTD - if you read a book titled Fate is the Hunter, by Ernest K Gann (about aeroplanes!) there is a bit in there where they were ferrying a load of self-acclaimed VIP's around, and every time one of them asked what was that town below, they replied - "Oh, That's White Dove". malB
OK if the name doesn't matter how about Memphis Belle or Sally B. There a couple of B17s for you; Quick take cover here come the Yanks! Seriously I'd go for Brandspeth Castle, depot of the Durham Light Infanty. As well as being a B17 ok it's not a footballer......
walkingthedog
I think they should only carry names they carried for real but I wouldn't buy a particular loco because it had a particular name.

Never knew Boeing B17 Flying Fortresses were known as Footballers or Sandringhams for that matter LOL! Sally B played the 'Belle in the 1990 film of the same name, Memphis Belle. 2e0dtoeric
I thought B17's were 'hedgehogs', and the Sandringham was a flying boat.(p.s. it's not easy trying to type when there's a cat sitting on your lap, headbuttng your arms! (Getting some very strange typo's!) )
