Difference between ac adaptors

Hello, i have about 3 train sets, the 2 of them came with a slim adaptor that says:

ac adaptor p9000w

and some other stuff

 Now the third train set came with an adaptor that said:

c990

ac/ac adapter

and some other stuff

I have seen information from train sets where the C990 is being used with both R.965 (older black with red knob) or R8250 (newer silver fascia on black box) Train Controllers
