Ratch
Originally Ha 141, designed by Dr. Ing Vogt in 1937 as a private venture, the prototype first flew on 25 February 1938. The A series flew well, but the five BV 141B-0’s were plagued with various troubles. The B series first flew on 9 January 1941. These problems were solved with the development of the Argus As 820 power plant giving a maximum speed of 345mph, a vast improvement on the previous BMW engine. Although originally designed for a reconnaissance role, it was transformed into a torpedo carrying Maritime Patrol aircraft designated Bv 141B-05 and assigned to Küstenfliegergruppe 906. http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24485975/411990065.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24485975/411990057.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24485975/411990058.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24485975/411990059.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24485975/411990060.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24485975/411990061.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24485975/411990062.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24485975/411990063.jpghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24485975/411990064.jpg

Ratch
Very nice! Is this a new tool? Thanks not a new tool - a whiff. What if the Luftwaffe had developed this design, gave it a more powerful engine, converted it to deliver topedoes, gave it a remotely operated turret and a nose gun, added long range fuel tanks. Just a bit of imagination with the spares box.
peebeep
Gotta love the Bv 141, one of the more remarkable subject choices ever from Airfix!

Jonathan Mock
Gotta love the Bv 141, one of the more remarkable subject choices ever from Airfix! Really quite adventurous choice for the time, but the unique shape must have been a big selling point and it was pretty steady in the range for a couple of decades. vimal_indrasoma
The RLM spec was for a single-engined recce plane with excellent visibility, but the nod went to the Fw189 - it used Argus engines which were available at the time, unlike the Bv141 which used the same engine as the Fw190 - guess which one got the priority!BTW, anyone notice any similiarities between the Bv141 and the Fw189? david_fleming
BTW, anyone notice any similiarities between the Bv141 and the Fw189?From memory, they used the same basic cockpit nacelle design - at least on the later Bv141s
Ratch
The design concept was looking backward to WW1 observation, so it inevitably would be surpassed.
