Snail89
I don't know if anyone can help on here but I'm trying to restore my grandads triang Battle of Britain Sir Winston Churchill r356 train.its missing its cylinder block part no x261 and after countless hours trawling the Internet I've had no look in sourcing anode one. Can anyone help with sourcing one or has anyone else had the same problem and know of another one that can be used in its place?
LCDR
At one time East Kent Models had some but they recently sold up and retired, their stock was disposed of on Ebay. There are other spares dealers, have you tried Peter's Spares? I haven't used them myself but others on the Forum speak highly of them. Failing that your best hope is a second hand loco which still has its cylinder block intact to canabalise, or to fabricate one using cylinder parts from the Dapol 'Biggin Hill' kit. A bit of a 'bodge I know, but it is what I might try if I was stuck.

I do have the part x.261 in my old stocksBeing new to here and reading the other posts I'm guessing you've had some health issues but glad to hear your feeling better. Not to push the subject but any idea when you will back in business I am really desperate for the part lol. I don't really want to buy a whole loco just to strip the part off as then someone else will have the problem.

This might sound obvious but you could look out for non runners on eBay. I'm not sure (perhapse SOT can confirm or otherwise) would the 1980's re-release cylinders fit an earlier Triang one? Ruffnut Thorston
The cylinder block I think was changed very late in the day, certainly the same basic part, with the same part number X.261, is used on the R.374 "Spitfire" BoB loco. Service Sheet issued in December 1981. The only difference is a hole in the stretcher, as the later locos have a screw fixing. Later locos (SS 177 4-6-2 West Country - Battle Of Britain Class Loco 1995) China made use a different cylinder block, X.3270, which would not fit the Tri-ang Chassis easily! Various parts for Tri-ang and Hornby Locos do come up on the auction sites regulary...so it is worth having a look.Try a search for "Parts" in the model railways sections.... 81F
As an aside i bought one in the 1980's and made a real pigs ear of detailing/repainting it into later BR period and totally bodged cutting down the tender. However, as the chassis had harly ever run, I've replaced the tender and loco body and the front pony truck so I now have a working model once more. Of interest the only pony truck I could get was a more detailed Cinba? bui;t one which fits almost perfectly and looks a lot better than the original! Snail89
As I said before I do t really want to buy a whole loco just for the cylinder block, it's seems a waste to me if I can get hold of the part I want, if not then I'll ha e to go down that root. The son of Triangman
Part X.261 fits the loco perfectly, the only difference is the screw hole as has been mentioned as the loco was re-introduced for a short while in the 1980's.

cessna152towser
Just found this old thread while searching for the very same item, X261 cylinder block to fit a vintage Triang Winston Churchill which I am restoring. LCDR
I would suggest Sarah's reply above still holds good. You can also try Peter's Spares.
