Big Nelly
Good afternonn all,I'd appreciate help and advice with best way to use 2sets of R609 track layouts. We have two train sets packs both with R609 curves to make oval track layouts (plus have number of additional points and straights). Is there a way to be able to use one of the tracks outside the first to have a double track layout like you would get with expansion packs B & C (Ie could we use the v. Short straight R610 between each R609 to give the radius spacing?) I know ideal would be to use 2nd or 4th radius curves (either individual or through expansion packs) but would like to use what we have rather than have surplus. Chrissaf
I'm not quite sure how Radius 1 curves got into the dialogue by magfan. The OP made no mention of R1 curves and R609 track pieces are 3rd radius double curves. But I do agree with magfan that the best way to resolve this is to experiment with the track pieces you have already got to see what works. LCDR
A normal single straight is about 168mm and will give average track spacing of 84mm if an extra one is inserted in the four extremes of the outer circuit. You can adjust the position of the circuits so that you get a normal spacing on one side to incorporate a crossover should you wish to have one, which will leave a slightly wider space on the other side. Normal track spacing is 67mm. You would really need four 134mm track pieces to obtain correct track spacing, which you could do by cutting up spare straights of course. Big Nelly
Thanks all for your advice. I'll try experimenting to see what works. On LC&DR's suggestion on the cross over -do you mean R8072/R8073 or points on curve R8074/R8075? For info sets are current models and require 2nd to 4th radius. LCDR
It will not work quite as easily if you use points on a curve, as these need 2nd / 3rd radius as well as the special curves to make them fit. Either the standard or express points will give you 67mm track intervals.
