John Symmons
Hi all at the forum. Just my opinion.Just brought the Messerschmitt 110E Trop and at first glance it looks very impressive. I’ll do a more in-depth review in the near future as there seems to be very little on this kit on the forum. One of the first things I do with any new kit is to scan in the decals and instructions, then seal them in plastic. I’ve just scanned in the decals of the Me 110E and very impressive they are, all 126 of them, but what really impressed me was the register, OK it’s not 100% the black is out 0.074 mm (yes I measured it in Corel Paint) Not that it really shows you’ll need a glass to really see it. ( I used to be a printer for most of my life so believe me I know about register and 0.075 mm is really pretty good, wish we could have achieved that some-times.) The other thing that really impressed me was the transparency of the carrier film; in fact I at first thought that the carrier film was over the whole sheet simular to the old sheets Altmark released a few year back; but no each decal has it’s own carrier and the carrier even follows the contour of the single individual letters with about 0.25 mm overlap all-round. Now that’s REALLY impressive, getting register onto the transparent carrier film, all I can say the printer must have some really sensitive Autotrons (print press register control system) maybe their 're using ultra-violet light or something. What-ever it is it’s impressive. The other thing I noticed was that years ago decals used to be printed using a silk-screen process; being the only process that gave a thick enough and opaque print film: but as such you always got some screen showing on fine details (same as you get from letter-press and gravure), but on these new Airfix decals I can find NO screening. So what-ever Airfix is doing and their printer is doing KEEP-DOING-IT, that’s really impressive well done Airfix great kudos to you.Remember we do this for fun John the PomPlease Mr moderator I’ve use some capitals for enforsis I am not shouting just expressing a strong opinion, so please do not delete them.
