LCDR
I have recently got out of storage a Hornby B12/3 from set R1032. I tried to run it but it did not respond to the controller so I took the body off to inspect it. I tried to put the power directly to the motor and was rewarded with a buzz but no movement. I then started to dismantle the chassis and removing the motor which then ran perfectly out of the chassis. I found one of the pick-up leads had become unsoldered, which was easy to fix, BUT I also found that the wheels wouldn't turn easily. In fact they were so stiff I had to use a fair amount of force to turn them.I found that the gear and axles were liberally coated with white grease, but it had solidified, and was acting like glue not lubricant. Now I do NOT use white grease, so it must have been there from manufacture.A bit of cleaning and fresh model loco oil soon got the wheels turning again, but I have not encountered this phemonenon before, so thought I would share the experience. poliss
That'll be because they didn't use Labelle #106, Plastic Compatible Grease w/PTFE. :-)
