andys steam dayz Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 HiNice to see "Fling Scotsman" back working the main line such an "Iconic"locomotive
andys steam dayz Posted January 8, 2016 Author Posted January 8, 2016 Before any body says anything the title should be Flying Scotsman its fat finger syndrome on my phone
walkingthedog Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 I guess it is a milestone getting it working again but it should have been back on track years ago. The initial restoration was a mismanaged disaster.
RB51 Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Lovely to see now its ready though. Makes me quite misty eyed. R-
96RAF Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 I guess it is a milestone getting it working again but it should have been back on track years ago. The initial restoration was a mismanaged disaster. Just as well it was subsidised by the public purse then, so that OK.
PJ_model_trains Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 3rd time lucky Andy ;o)Brilliant loco, the name is known all round the world. It will be nice to see it in action.
Cronan Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Nice to see the world famous loco back on track.
2e0dtoeric Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 I note that the title of this thread has been changed -It WAS Fling Scotsman, but now it is the Flying Sotsman! :-)I saw a short vid of the 'loaded test run' this morning, on Farcebook. There was a Black 5 directly behind the Crying Flotsam, which was doing the push/pulling, and was providing the brakes, because the Flotsam's brake pump is duff! All the Flotsam was doing was blowing off over-pressure, and coasting.
GreenGiraffe22 Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 I love its wartime livery :) I wish they'd keep it like that, I'm not a big fan of BR liveries, but I expect many more people are!
LCDR Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 GG22, Yes, BR livery is good, especially lined Mixed Traffic black. The Bulleid 'Sunshine' black livery is rather nice though, so I partially agree with you.
Fazy Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Nice to see the flying scotsman back in steam. Ignoring the fiasco of course. But what is going on with Hornby! 5 Flying Scotman models all out at the same time and a sixth in the LNER multi bundle.
walkingthedog Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 FS is a big seller. The more they make the more they'll sell.
Tony57 Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 My disappointmet in the 5 models not one has a non corridor tender, when she was first built and ran she had a standard 8 wheel non corridor type tender.1924 -1928

2e0dtoeric Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 If you really want to watch it, there's a propaganda film of the flotsam with two tenders - making it's 40th anniversary run non-stop to Scotland - http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p011vfqw/4472-flying-scotsman#group=p01277qd
GWR LNER fan 4472 Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 I love its wartime livery :) I wish they'd keep it like that, I'm not a big fan of BR liveries, but I expect many more people are!I'm not a big fan of BR liveries either! Personally I'd like to see it back in the traditional LNER apple green with the famous 4472 number on the cab side... I must say I do like Tornado's express blue livery though.
mjb1961 Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 I have the Scotsman in wartime black R3100 ,with the Scotsman comeing out of the shed after 10years it's helped push up the prices ,two R3100 locos on eBay for £200 +,,,,,no saying they will sell them of course ,,
LCDR Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 I got both my Flying Scotsman models out yesterday for a run on the rolling road and a drop of lubrication. (Yes even LC&DR has one, in fact two) R850 (with firebox glow and X04 motor) ran OK but was a bit noisy, but got quieter when the oil worked its way through. R845 without glow and X03 motor ran much quieter. The only failure of my ex LNER locos which were all given a run and lubricate was the Replica B1, which seems to have a wheel out of quartering, and ran like a ruptured duck. I may replace it with a Hornby one if I can find a good second-hand model. Probably get my ex LMS locos out next for their annual service.
