FsAviX Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 hello everyone, i have recently started noticing small dents in the body of some of my planes, it looks like the plastic has melted inwards. does anyone know what this could be and what can be done to prevent it from happening?
DavidJC Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Is this before or after gluing? Polystyrene glue, of whatever type, will melt plastic parts together for its bond. Other glues like super glue just glue the edges together with no actual damage as such to the plastic. If you've applied too much in the way of polystyrene glue it could be doing just that - melting parts.
FsAviX Posted January 9, 2016 Author Posted January 9, 2016 i was suspecting that aswell, thank you very much for the help!
Russ1707821018 Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Polystyrene cement in the tube form is particularly likely to cause the melting of parts long after you have assembled the model because it takes so long for all the solvent to evaporate if you apply too much glue. I find liquid glue like Humbrol Liquid Poly is much better than tube cement for model assembly. Tape the parts that you want to join securly together and then lightly brush liquid poly on the seam. Capillary action will draw the cement into the seam and weld the parts together. You will find that this is a much quicker and neater way to join parts together.
