Wobblinwheel Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 I just posted a new topic. A VERY long one, at that. Exactly when was it, during the time I was typing, did I mysteriously become "LOGGED OUT"????? It was a very interesting topic, which I may try again, if Hornby ever fixes this website....now I need a drink....
ff2nd Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 I know it's frustrating. If I am posting something long to ANY forum, before I post it, I copy it. That way, if it fails, I can log in and post it again quickly. Might help in the future.
96RAF Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Often the browser back button (left arrow/whatever) works to find your typing then you can copy and paste it again. People have said if they login and post a short reply (kind of to reserve their slot) then edit it to their longer reply that works every time.
Tony57 Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 HiIt just happened to me, wrote the reply to a post pressed reply "sorry you are not logged in", start again. It is frustrating when the site say you are logged in then you are not.
LCDR Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 It still catches me out. If I know I am going to write a longish and complicated post I prepare it in WORD first.
Wobblinwheel Posted January 14, 2016 Author Posted January 14, 2016 I did try the "back" button approach, but it didn't work. Doesn't seem to affect brief posts or replies. Maybe I'll try the "post and edit" trick in the future.
Pete172 Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 It would be best if Hornby just fixed the problem, this has happened to me often, so then I just post a shorter version, but missing some of the detail........
choralc Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 If in doubt whether you have taken too long to compose may I suggest that you copy the text before pressing reply. If it fails and go back doesn't work start a new reply and paste
LCDR Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 ' Post short and edit' works provided you do not attach a picture first time you save.I use this myself, but usually if the message is getting longer than I originally intended but if I know I am going have to write a lengthy reply I create the text in my wordprocessor (WORD in my case) and copy and paste to the forum. This also gives me a spell check too, because spell check has stopped working on the forum. It also means I can save a bit of research in case I need it again somewhere else.
2e0dtoeric Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Or use 'copy and paste'Type out your words, but before you 'send' them, correct any typos, then copy with the mouse key - then if it disappears when you send, just re-open the reply, paste in, and send again, it takes a couple of seconds to do, and the forum doesn't have time to log you out again!.If you don't know how - put your mouse cursor at the beginning of the first word, press and hold down the left button, and wipe the cursor down the words to the end. They all go blue. LET GO of the left button before you move the mouse again!Click the RIGHT mouse button, a new box opens on screen, left-click the word COPY.Open your new reply square, put the mouse cursor in it, RIGHT click, and find the word PASTE in the box. LEFT-click it, and your words re-appear.Simples!
96RAF Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Does anyone know how to do this click and drag on an iPad .if I press and hold for a few seconds then release I can get a select all option then copy option but I cannot selectively drag over a lesser section of text, only the select all option.
walkingthedog Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 When you select a word it has a blue dot each side. The dots can be dragged along to select more text. It is a bit hit or miss, you really need tiny pointed fingers.
VESPA Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Many times I have given up after writing a missive and it disappearing. One of my replies to Fazy went AWOL so he didn't get a reply as it took ages to type out.
Michael_A Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Is it not possible for the website to be changed to count a key stroke into the forum window as acitvity, and time you out only a certain time after no key strokes? Pretty sure my bank account works that way.
