RobF Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Hello,I've unpacked my locos that have not been used in 20 years to check them out and look about running them again. One model, the R319 Queen Mother is a Class 47 co-co. Whilst checking it out for dirt/lubrication etc I noticed that the middle axle on the motor bogie, the wheels were loose. They don't really have an axle but they're not a good fit either and wobble on the stubs. My concern is derailment.I was wondering if anyone else has a Hornby Co-Co from this period (1985) who could advise if this was normal for the middle wheelset on the motor bogie. The rest of mine are Bo-Bo.Many thanks,R.
walkingthedog Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 That's what they do if I remember correctly. They just sit there and wobble on their stubby axles.
Tony57 Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Hi RobIt is normal for the middle wheels to be loose on the CO motor bogie bogie There is no fear of these causing a derailment
The son of Triangman Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 I agree with WTD and Tony's advice, the middle wheesets are unpowered so sit on a cast axle and a stub axle and just "float". It's worth getting the loco serviced before use if it hasn't been used for so ling as the oiling points on the power bogie etc can dry out with time.
