Jonathan Mock Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Another piece of little known Airfix history, these two models were presented to Flt. Lt. John Peters RAF (famous Tornado pilot shot down during Desert Storm) and noted author Dilip Sarkar, at the launch of Mr Darkar's new book "A Few of the Many" in 1995. Both model were made STFB with kit decals. http://i719.photobucket.com/albums/ww195/jonathanmock/spits%20copy%202_zpst87mtaxy.jpghttp://i719.photobucket.com/albums/ww195/jonathanmock/spits_zpswxkhettl.jpg
Ratch Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Any reason why they were presented with these particular models?
peebeep Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Out od curiosity, how were the black elements of the bases done? MDF with profiled edges, then painted?
Jonathan Mock Posted January 17, 2016 Author Posted January 17, 2016 @Ratch Dilip's book mainly dealth with Spitfire pilots, and so it was felt a Spit would be appropriate, especially as Flt' Lt Peters was going to be there, and it meant he could be presented with a desert version as befits his service in Desert Storm. @Paul, the bases are plastic - it's just a standard model display case bought in shop!
Model bean Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 I still have a packaged one. I was just wondering how old it may be?
Kenneth ONeill Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 If you can see the inside of the fuselage mouldings, the first release copyright date may be moulded there.
