Bendennis Castle Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Hi All, I've managed to pick up what looks to be an unpainted preproduction sample of the Hornby Hall from a couple of years back (for a rather low price). My plans for it is to have it repainted into 5900 Hinderton Hall as at Didcot, but my question is; seeing as its a preproduction sample would this be a foolish move due to it being particular rare/worth more in its current state? And subsequently will there be hoards of angry modellers forming angry mobs outside my house if I did repaint it? Cheers Ben
LCDR Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Its your loco, you can do what you like with it! I did exactly that with a pre-production model I got (not Hornby) some years ago. And we don't know where you live do we!
81F Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 You could also wait until spare bodies come on the market - I've done this when I've wanted to rename duplicate locos. However, the need to get a spare tender top (if not the chassis) might make the exercise uneconomic.
Fozzy Bear Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 "And subsequently will there be hoards of angry modellers forming angry mobs outside my house if I did repaint it?"Now theres a mental image. A bunch of silly old buggers outside, shaking their walking frames at you shouting "Heretic, heretic!!!,don't paint it and count the rivets!!" whilst James May sit there and laughs his head off. I think you might be safe...........

Cheers BenAngry hoards of railway modellers definatly noAngry hoards of lunatic fringe collectors if they find you yes, but feel free to exercise rule 303 on them.regards John
VESPA Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 I don't want to put the cat amongst the pigeons here but unpainted models were very common a few years ago from the now ceased Modelspares Burnley.
2e0dtoeric Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 Isnt this rather like putting the pigeon amongst all the cats? :-)Leave the body-shell unpainted and un-numbered, and tell everyone it is a pre-production loco undergoing performance trials!
Bendennis Castle Posted January 18, 2016 Author Posted January 18, 2016 Cheers guys! Just wanted to make sure beforehand that I wasn't about to destroy a model worth a lot more than what I bought it for! But doesn't look to be the case so it shall be off to the painters within the week! Cheers,Ben

Depending on the model it may have value, but as others said, as it is yours it becomes your choice. I'd never put a drop of paint on it if it were me, simply because of it being a unique piece. But that being unique doesn't mean that it has lots of value. So feel free to do as you please...If any angry modelers turn up outside, give them a lick of paint too!
