lightmaster Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Is it ok to use Enamel Wash's on a model that has been painted with Actylic Paints ?
DavidJC Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Yes, altthough I've heard cautions over not using white spirit or turpentine etc that's too strong. Like all these things though, test first.
Ratch Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 It is generally recommended that you use contrasting media. For exampe - if your model is painted in acrylics an enamel wash should be used. Conversely if your model has been painted with enamels, an acrylic wash is best. This is so that the wash does not disturb the underlying paintwork.
ntrocket88 Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 It is often recommended to use a gloss varnish or Pledge Future to coat the model before applying the wash. In that case, you can use an enamel wash on enamel, provided that the varnish is acrylic or lacquer based. I personally use matt enamel paint with a matt (flat) clear lacquer from Model Master and then an AK Interactive enamel wash. It makes pin washing a little more difficult, but the result is still matt, whereas I find a matt enamel/gloss varnish or Future/wash/matt varnish approach often still leaves the model with a satin finish at best.
Sgt.Squarehead Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I always seal my paintwork with Klear (semi-gloss acrylic) before applying any oil-based wash.
