Tony57 Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 HiI am looking for some replacement/spare parts for a R55 Power bogie made by Triang in 1955I brought some transcontinental engine chassis and with the units was an almot complete R55 power Bogie, This bogie uses an X04 motor rather than the newer modern Triang type motors which is why I would like to repair it if possible, the parts I am looking for are as follows numbers taken from Service sheet 6,R55 / 7 motor piller x1 ideally x2, R55 / 9, Motor top plate x1, S1011 securing screws x2 and S1015 pivot pin x1.Can anyone help please?(posted in wanted section Model Railway Forum as well)
Ruffnut Thorston Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 The R.55 Mk1 motor bogie is a work of art, we have a couple of these early locos.... My application to the Model Railway Forum you mentioned is pending....;)
LCDR Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 The X04 type motor in these early Triang TC locos drives the final drive worms and pinions through a gear train to a shaft running beneath the motor. Later motor bogies incorporated the armature and commutator on that final shaft instead and surrounded it with the pole pieces, making a very compact and reliable motor bogie. I have just serviced a Hornby Dublo Bo-Bo which uses a similar principle to the latter. I think it was only the F7 single ended diesel had the X04 type motor bogie, the Switcher got the later one from the outset.
Tony57 Posted January 22, 2016 Author Posted January 22, 2016 HiAccording to my service sheet file only the earliest R55 had that X04 powered power bogie, everything else from 1956, EMU, DMU, younger F7 class transcontinental up to 1970s, Blue Pullman, Blue Double Ended Transcon, Overhead Transcon, Dock Yard and Yard Switchers and Large switchers, AL1s (Class 81) all had the later motor bogies. However the good news is I have found all the missing bits I need apart from S1015 pivot pin from one of the sellers I follow.

We have a lot of Tri-ang Spares..... Regards Sarah.

96RAF Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 I think there is a need to allow direct contact from the forums to specific 'spares suppliers' such as SoT and Sarahagain as obviously folk need to source these rarer parts and these others obviously have them for sale, even if they are not a bona-fida commercial enterprise. How about if the forum was to include a Sales and Wants section restricted to those who are private sellers not full blown commercial entities.
