Controller Differences?

Hi,

We have two sets, Quick Build Cops n Robbers and Spectre along with several extensions and different cars. We have made one large track and today my son and I were testing out the older contollers (Cops n Robbers) vs the newer controllers (Spectre) and found a massive difference in performance. With the old controllers the cars are slower (not by too much) however the cars stop in half the distance. In both cases they share the same P9400W 15v 1.2A power supply.

Does anyone know what causes the differencial?

The older controllers have brakes and the newer don't.

When you release the trigger of the older controllers you short circuit the motor (technically not correct but you get the idea) and it turns the motor into a generator slowing the car down right quick.

That is why the ARC ONE brake Mod is so popular. You get the features of ARC with controllers with brakes.

Hi Martin,

Afraid not.... To be honest I am not sure any of the new controllers or powerbases even offer brakes....I held off buying ARC ONE until I saw the "brake mod" that allows you to use a standard powerbase (with brakes) and the ARC ONE.

I have been using this combo for months ow and really love it. In fact, in other forums I have been using it to promot use of ARC ONE with other brands, only those of German persuasion seem extremely sceptical (probably because there are no easy-to-buy adapters for that system) but most SCX and NINCO drivers love the idea!

I will get ARC ONE as soon as it come out because the kids get tangled in the cables and for the extra features but I hope thanks to the profiles you can mitigate lack of analog brakes somewhat. I will keep my ARC ONE with brake mod though for serious racing and timing and tuning, unless of course ARC AIR has some feature to compensate....

Happy racing!

The C7042 6 car digital powerbase controller gives the options of how the car responds when you release the throttle; brakes or no brakes.  You then also have a brake control on the handset.  So all options on this powerbase.

Hi, can you explain the " brake mod" you mentioned here as I would most certainly prefer brakes on my controller. Did you mean it's a feature on arc one or do you mean you have modified it yourself?

Yes. The button on the controller is for applying brakes. You can even adjust how much brake and throttle the controls have in the APP.
