hello ,brand new duke of Gloucester Pullman train set arrived today ,on testing the loco on my rolling road I found it to be whining ,I don't know much about the mechanism of the loco but it makes me think it's the motor or gearing ,would anyone know if I'm right or wrong ,will it go away with running !,    Thankyou  Martin

Does the whine change pitch with the speed of the loco? It might just need running in, or it might need a tiny drop of oil on the motor bearings.

Are you sure it is the loco, and not the rolling road, that is whining?

Put it on a length of proper track, and see if the noise stops.

Run it in 30 minutes each direction medium speed no carriages and see if it goes away.

Hi WTD ,Will give it a run in period and see if it goes ,, thankyou ,,mjb

Hi ,thanks for your reply ,yes to whine does change with speed so I'll have a look at giving it a drop of oil and a run in ,also the rolling road is ok as I tested another loco afterwards and that was fine ,,,,thanks ,,,mjb

Whining noise......

.

Isn't that something an Essex girl makes when her boyfriend tells her he won't take her to Lakeside or Bluewater.

No it's the noise I made last night when I finally worked out that I could put the Hattons' decoder in place of the 15g weight in front of the motor in Bachmann's 32-004  'Sketty Hall' after trying to rest it above the motor and finding I could not fit the body back on and after putting it all back together the chip is no longer recognised after it had been working with the body off!

Now that was a whining noise!
