EmGee Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 I am building an Airfix 1/24 Supermarine Spitfire Mk1a and have hit a small problem. The retaining pin (part number 10) which is inserted into the engine block and glues into the boss at the back of the propellor seems to have a keyhole section whereas the hole it should be glued into is circular. Is this a moulding defect? If so it seems to be quite a major flaw, I can trim the keyhole section down to be circular to fit but it does seem quite a drastic modification. Am I missing something?/media/tinymce_upload/c57c807898afdd3ad973092c1ab1bb33.JPG-resized.jpg /media/tinymce_upload/eafa4ccd67027e296cb943389c93768b.JPG-resized.jpg
Simon Norton1707820138 Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 I've had a look at mine and the pin is circular and centered on the hub. It looks like yours has a moulding flaw I think you need to file it to fit.I'll try posting a photo of what it should look like if admin will let me.

EmGee Posted January 27, 2016 Author Posted January 27, 2016 Many thanks for that, it's obviously as you say a moulding defect, easily rectified but at least I now know that I am not going bonkers.... 😀/media/tinymce_upload/97810648384e6d66cfaeb2a8904704dc.png
Ratch Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 I think that key matches the drive shaft on the back of the propellers
EmGee Posted January 27, 2016 Author Posted January 27, 2016 I think that key matches the drive shaft on the back of the propellersBut the hole it is supposed to fit into is circular and it is glued in place. If it was a push fit then I could understand a key and keyway being necessary but as drtemplar's photo shows his to be a circular section pin then I would assume mine to be a moulding defect. I have asked customer service for some clarification and am waiting for another photo to be moderated. But many thanks for all the input, it's very helpful.
