morley00 Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 hi there everyone. i have just put a new dcc concept 21 pin convert to 8 pin into my j50 then started to run it in with out the body on to make sure its running welll but as it moving its sounds bad or like old 1980 motor. i am using a nce pro cab i have also bought a j15 and run like a dream quiet . i recieved it at christmas from hornby has any one had the same problem ? or is it the chip do i need to use a 8 pin would it make a difference any advice is welcome
96RAF Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 I doubt the number of pins will make any difference to the noise.if you can, put it back into DC rig with a decoder blanking plug and run it like that to assess the noise.it may just need some (sparingly applied) lube.
walkingthedog Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Have you run it in 30 minutes medium speed both directions no wagons. I have one and it is not noisy but then it is good old DC.
morley00 Posted January 25, 2016 Author Posted January 25, 2016 thank you for reply i will try dc tomorrow and use some oil to lube it and i will see if makes a difference
morley00 Posted January 27, 2016 Author Posted January 27, 2016 hi just to reply to wtd and raf 96 thank for advice i j50 is proforming well as sugested i ran her on dc still abit noisey but eventuly noise ruduced also lube her up as well not to much tho thank for the advice
walkingthedog Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 I don't know why Hornby don't suggest running in their locos. It makes a huge difference. You can actually see the locos speed increasing as it settles in.
