Transferring Railmaster from PC to a dedicated laptop.

Hi, I have scoured the forums but I cannot find any info on how to delete Railmaster from my desktop and transfer all its contents to my laptop, including the product key. I am assuming I will need to deauthourise my PC before I can activate on my laptop. If this is correct, how can I do this? Also I will need to transfer all my data etc to my laptop copy of Railmaster. Is there an easy way of doing this to avoid having to redo all my engine and point CV's?

Cheers

Spireblade, everything you need to know is on pages 131 & 132 of the 1.63 version RM manual.

.

These pages tell you the deactivation process i.e deactivating your product key. What files you need to transfer from your old to new PC to retain all your locos and settings. Do make sure that you write your activation key down somewhere for reference if you still don't have your original CD. You don't need the CD for the installation on the new PC, just the activation key written on the packaging.

.

Just download a completely new copy of RM from the link at the top of the forum RM section for the installation of RM on the new PC. Currently version 1.63.5.0 Activate it with the original CD key code then copy the listed files (manual page 132) from the old PC to the same named folder (see note below though) on the new PC (over-writing and replacing any files of the same name the copy process finds there).

.

NOTE: If your old PC is so old that it does not have this folder "Program Files (x86)" come back here and advise of that fact. It has a bearing on what you need to do during the copy files procedure.

.

You don't have to uninstall RM on your old PC, once the product key is deactivated. RM on that PC reverts to being an evaluation copy. Don't uninstall the old RM copy until the new PC version of RM is fully functional to your satisfaction. Then you will always have a backup plan if things go wrong.

.

If after reviewing pages 131 & 132 you are left confused, then come back and tell us, and we (probably me) will spell it out in 'step by step' terms. If you do that however, include what version of Windows you are going 'from' and 'to' and what controller you are using (eLink or Elite) as it all has a bearing on the instructions given.

.

If the new PC is Windows 10, then I strongly urge you to review the new addition to the end of the locked post at the top of the forum 'Railmaster' section titled "Railmaster: Setting Up and getting Started". The last post in that locked thread relating to RM with Windows 10.
