EdMarra Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 I recently purchased a used Hornby City Industrial train set (R1127), which ran fine for a little, but now it looks like the main drive gear around the front axle has split! What are the remedies to repairing it? I've seen everything from just purchasing a new 0-4-0T like it, to people selling just the chassis. I was considering just replacing the gear, but not sure of the gear to get for it, much less taking off one of the wheels to get to it.Any help would be appreciated!
tony_forward Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 If recently purchased then return to the retailer for replacement or repair.
81F Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 I have had to change a couple of these on both 0-4-0 and 4-6-0 Chassis. If you get the correct gear the process is fairly straighr forward. Remove one wheel and gently tap the axel unril it comes out then put the new gear between the fames and push the axel back. And now the difficult bit. Put the other wheel back on taking car to ensure the quartering is right. If you get it wrong the mechanism will bind so some trial and error may be needed.
