Forum-1211528 Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 The Triang class 81 was a great electric loco the trouble is the one i have in ELECTRIC BLUE is a non released PROTOTYPE as they did E3001 in this livery but the one i have is one of only two in the world as HORNBY own the other one it runs well but i hardly ever use her now shes in a glass case locked up it shows you these 81s should be made again by hornby if bachmann have done the old TRIX class 85 there is scope to bring this back!
trainlover23 Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Both Triang and Hornby Dublo released the AL1 loco around the same time back in the early sixties. Whilst not rare they are not common. The Bachmann 85 is most certainly NOT the Trix/Liliput model but a totally new mould
AndyMac1707817969 Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 There always seems to be a lot of reluctance to do anything with a pantograph. I guess it might be down to the balance between people who want it to look right and those who want it to function reliably as one and pickup power from overhead wires. The Heljan 86 seemed to get a lot of criticized about the pantograph and they don't seem to be any hurry to produce any more. The AC electrics are the most unrepresented class of all.
Ruffnut Thorston Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Hornby Dublo released their AL type Electric loco model shortly before Meccano Limited was taken over by the Lines Bros Group (Tri-ang). This was 2-rail, and the pantographs worked as well....3-rail it seems was an option.... Tri-ang Railways (Rovex) was about to release a AL type Electric Loco as well..... (I seem to remember reading somewhere that the two models were of differnt prototype...and cannot remember off hand which "AL" type was which!) After the "amalgamation" in 1965, Tri-ang used the Hornby Dublo body tooling and made a Tri-ang Type chassis for it. With working pantographs. The original Tri-ang model was not proceeded with.Possibly "THE TRIANG CLASS 81 THAT NEVER WAS!!" 😉
Fazy Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 So a Bachmann 85, 90 a heljan 86 and Hornbys 92, 90, 87 not to mention the old EM1 &2 dont count the with a grand total of 7 out of 14 classes. 50%. That's a bit better then say maybe 200 out of 1600 classes BR inherited in 1946. You might say some are old or not quite right in detail for today's modeler. However I can say the same for many steam loco models.
Postman Prat Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Hi FazyQuote " You might say some are old or not quite right in detail for today's modeler. However I can say the same for many steam loco models." The Princess Royal and J83 to mention only 2
