Unable to make text a clickable link - MAC

Up until  now I have been able to block edit text by "sweeping" the cursor across the text in question to make changes and/or make it a clickable link for readers. Releasing the mouse button now makes the screen jump to the bottom of the page and although I can get back to the text no editing is possible and although I can place the URL in the box, it is not accepted by the system. The same thing happens - the screen jumps to the lowest portion.

Just to reiterate - this is on a MAC using Safari (just in case that makes a difference).

Anyone else getting this? Anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?

Thanks, R-

Hi roger b,I

I don't know if you've heard but Safari is on the blink due to an update I think from last week ,my wife and I both have iPads, earlier this week both of our iPads wouldnt allow us to type ,I E ,type a search in the safari browser ,we temporarily used google app to get around ,but we are both using safari now ,this is how we did it ,,

1----Go into settings ,

2---Scroll  down the list on the left until you come to safari and click on it

3---On the right you will see from the top under search you will have ,search engine suggestions,,safari suggestions ,and one or two more ,Turn them Off and see if it fixed your problem ,,,,,hope it does , I assume the iPad and Mac are the same in respect of operating systems ,,,,mjb

I have been struggling with Safari on the iPad also.

When I press and hold on some text to get the select/select all/copy option it would bring up the little blue pins on the selected text, but when I tried to drag them apart to encase the range of text I wanted to link to, it jumped off the preferred text into white space. Then when I tried to form the link using the chain icon it was greyed out presumably as no text was selected.

Nor could I get the press and hold to paste option up in the link dialogue box.

In the end I typed the text in by hand saved it then went into edit to form the link.

Lets hope Apple sort it out soon.

No problems doing links on the Win PC by the way.

no point clicking though as its a dummy for the purposes of proving the cure.

Original settings on iPad are OK except that if the text is in the first line the iPad pop-up "Copy, Paste....." etc gets in the way of the row where you set the link up. This part of this post made from my iPad.

This  part made from Windows. No problem here.

This part from Mac - which is still dancing around like a Loon. There is no "Settings" menu on the Mac as far as I can see.  ☹️

Thanks though MJB.
