Hi there,

I'm a newcomer to the hobby and building a layout. I recently bought a second hand 0-6-0 GWR pannier tank loco which runs very well going forwards but in reverse is noisy and jerky at low speeds. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing that comes to mind is that it has always been run forwards, and almost never backwards, so the gears have worn in only the one direction.

The other possibility is -muck on the pick-ups that rub on the backs of the wheels, or maybe a weak springy pick-up that isn't quite touching the wheels when running backwards.

If you bought it from a shop, take it back before you start fiddling.
