Hello All

I was a bit puzzled to read that several members seem to find it laborious posting pictures.  WTD, particularly, mentioned Photobucket and links. I hope I am not stating the obvious but excuse me if so. I find it easy just to click on the icon 2nd from left in the upper part of the "Content" window, go to Browse then select from my "Layouts" or "Locos"folder where the images are stored in jpg. format.

I hope my comments are helpful and I'm not trying my grandmother to suck eggs - or whatever the expression is.

Jim, does not mention browse in any list when i click on it. Are you referring to the 2 picture icons, posting picks on forum. I have never been able to post a picture yet. john

The green tree icon is to link to a picture on the web somewhere by entering the URL of the source and if necessary fiddling with its size, whereas the black/white icon (can't work out what that icon is) is to fetch a picture from your pc files using the browse to method...

(can't work out what that icon is)

.

I think it is supposed to represent the 'negative' of a landscape photo. A 'sun' over a 'mountain range' but as a photographic negative. Well that's what I think it is anyway......

.

Surely (stop calling me Surely joke) it is the third from the right (assuming the ABC one is visible), not the second from the left....but I'm just being picky.

Jimbo your post makes no sense to me. 'Contents'? 'browse'? Can't find those.  'Laoyout'? 'Locos'?  I take it this is where you store your photos.

I can post pictures OK if I take them on my iPad when prompted. It won't let me post pictures already stored on my iPad, says they're not the correct type.

I seem to have stepped on a wasps nest here LOL 😆 !   Or something our bovine friends leave behind.

RAF has hit the nail on the head. The black-and- white icon is the one for uploading pics. WTD, when you click on it a window, or "Dialogue Box", opens for you to "Select a Picture" from your PC, with the option to Browse your computer. I think the problems arise if you are using an iPhone, not a Win PC. I don't have a phone (wot !*@XZ !!) simply because I am deaf. But I believe Apple uses a different algorithm for images and these may not be easily

compatible with the Forum's software. PC experts, forgive me if I am wrong, please. So therein lies the rub, it seems.

You are right in that I store my railway pictures (and some HD videos) on the hard disc of my PC, with back-up on a stand-alone memory. So it is easy to go browsing onto a siding, as it were. I also keep a ledger with pictures of each loco + details, as I collect it. So I,ve got both belt and bracers you could say.

WTD, I hope this has been helpful.

I have about 20,000+ photos on a WD passport In many different folders. The simplest way with an iPad is to go to the black and white icon and when prompted select 'take a picture'. Take the picture with the iPad and it's done. I have a selection of photos on the iPad/iCloud but when I select one of these it does like it.

You say I mentioned Photobucket etc., wasn't that ages ago, don't remember, then again it might have been this morning, still don't remember.

I've just downloaded a picture from iCloud which I think has worked. Just doesn't seem to like the ones stored on the iPad but now I think I know why. The iPad versions are low resolution, when you select it the iCloud (proper) version overwrites it but obviously not when you try to download the iPad version to the forum. Let's see if my picture from my iCloud store appears.

All the pics I have posted on here have been taken on the I-pad and uploaded from the I-pad as and when!

However just tried it now with one saved late last year and now tells me that the file type is not permitted! So either Hornby have changed the permitted formats or Apple have - more likely Apple!

So likely no more pics from me.

I was trying earlier from the iPad and using the black & white upload icon I managed to get an animated gif in the box, but jpeg/jpegs either got me the same not permitted file type or it went on forever before announcing an error had occurred as it was taking longer than usual - well I never.

you won't see them as I bombed out before hitting the reply button.

i haven't tried the url upload option from  the iPad but here goes...er it sort of works if you see a blank box and a wavy flag

Ditto Tony on the iPad, but after retrying about 6 times and from different areas on the iPAd - Camera Roll, Albums, Blah, Blah, etc it said it was done so I wait for it to appear in another forum thread (lets see your layouts)...

@Jimbo

When you post a picture you have to wait for it to be moderated by Admin and at weekends this may not happen until mid morning Monday...

Moves are afoot to allow trusties to post without this wait, but we are waiting for that as well.

My ipad pictures used to work until I transferred them to iCloud. Now only the iCloud versions work. The ones held on the iPad are not high quality, that's why they don't work. When you look at the thumbnail it looks OK but if you select it, it is downloaded from the cloud. That version downloads OK to the forum.

Like I said I only keep the pictures downloaded on my iPad in the cloudy thing, because it doesn't have space for them all. It just leaves lower resolution versions on the iPad. When you select a picture the high resolution one is temporarily downloaded. Very clever.

All my my photos are stored on a Western Digital Passport external disc drive backed up onto another of the same. Don't think there's enough room on my iCloud to take them all.

I have 3 big external HDDs attached to my main pc to which the iPads synchronise via the dreaded flaky iToons.

One is purely for Downloads, as I fetch many TV series and films by torrent (quite legal here unlike UK where BT and Sky put the mockas on it),

Two is used for Storage, where I keep the vast bulk of my data files, pictures, douments, etc,

Three is reserved for PC Backups, including the content of Two and the iPads.

This leaves the pc to store programs and apps and basic user files and get cluttered with the other stuff.

I also have a portable HDD which I use to transport stuff between here and UK upon my travels, including all those TV series and films I download so I can watch them in UK when there nothing on UK TV.

Nice R.A.F. ensign !  Like several others I don't trust the Clouds. Separate storage media more reassuring in my case.

I wonder if it is possible to post small video clips from hard drive (without creating a link, which is a bit of a bother).
