Railroad Evening Star price

The chassis is completely new tooling. And hence the price hike (and delay). It probably has better gearing also It may now look new from the outside, that's because they cannot change that but it is apparently fully new tooling. Still when you look at models like the BR 9F and BR Franco-Crosti 9F they have a lot more detail in them than the AC electrics that are more than they're worth.

Seen the latest Class 92? So IMHO, the BR Class 9F and BR Franco-Crosti 9F have more value for money than the Class 92 which is actually inaccurate and old in many ways.

The Railroad 9F is a far better looking model than its tender drive predecessor. It performs magnificently, and the finish is excellent. Very little in the way of 'fally off bits' but still with adequate detail moulded on. The valve gear is slightly more 'robust' than a scale model, but not such that it is a distraction, especially with a blackened finish. It repays a little tittivating with picking out certain pipe work, and possibly a little weathering, things we can easily do ourselves.

If what you say is true and the  chassis is a complete new design then maybe we will see some nice new black 9f's coming from Hornby with two different tenders. The one from Evening Star and ones that come from the Crosti.

Now I am fully expecting some clever so an so to say something about the tenders from one or the other did not go with the Standard 9f's

Hi Fazy

You were saying about clever so and so and here I am.

The tender fitted to the Crosti 9F was type BR1B and as well as the Crosti s they were attached to nos 92060-6 and 92097-9 which were the Tyne Dock allocation. The ones fitted to Evening Star were type BR1G and they equipped nos 92000-9 and 92203-92250 which were block allocated to the Western Region.

Type BR1C (which resembled the Type BR1B, although I don't know if they appered similar from above) was fitted toseveral 'blocks of 9E were allocated to Nos 92015-19, 92045-59, 92077-86, 92100-39 and 92150-64.

Towards the end of BR Steam these allocations were subject to change.

Having read that, you're now as clever as I am.  😆

Has anyone got this loco yet? I'm hoping to buy it to haul my heavy goods trains, is it recomended? I was a bit anoyed when the price shot up £30! I would definitely prefere this type to the Franco-Crosti boiler version of the 9F as it looks more classic and less (ahem) ugly.
