How do I get my forum avatar to display?

My avatar isn't displaying (a picture of one of my locos). It's been approved by the admin as it's appearing in my forum account settings, but it's not coming up on my posts.

Am I missing a step? Any help would be appreciated

When exactly did you add the avatar image within your forum account settings pages?

.

The image shown there appears instantaneously after you browse to the image and upload it. Appearing there just confirms that the image size and file type are compliant with the required specification. Just because it appears there, does not mean that it has yet passed the Admin moderation process. Depending upon how busy Admin are and day of week, there may be a delay of a couple of days.

.

So....If you have only loaded your avatar image into your Account settings in the last 24 hours or so, you may be chasing too soon. It will only appear in the normal forum posts once passed moderation.

.

PS - Mine took about 4 -5 days to be processed. But that was during the early days of the new forum software going live. Thus Admin would have been very busy then.

Given the other recent posts regarding Hornby's financial woes. Maybe Admin are bogged down with internal management meetings!!.

Garrett, now its Monday and your Avatar still hasn't arrived, then it looks like your request has fallen through a hole. Probably worthwhile chasing via e-mail to Adam on his direct e-mail address forum@hornby.com

.

Check first that it is still showing in your Forum Account page.

Yes but Garrett said he uploaded his image last Wednesday.

.

EDIT: Adam, must have been doing a whole batch of images this morning. As Garrett's avatar has just appeared.

As an aside to avatars, I asked Adam to make the external link in my signature live- I notice others have them as well now - and he did it for me, but in so doing my avatar disappeared. I resubmitted the avatar and the live link died. Adam says he has a problem in having both on there at the same time but is working on it.

@garrettendi - nice avatar - on my signature linked web pages there is an article about converting that loco to sound.

Sorry to bring this thread up again, but I cannot get my avatar to be accepted. I have downsized it to 100pix.sq. and it comes up when asked for in my account, but when I click save it says there's nothing there to save. I appreciate it takes a couple of days to be verified. Where am I going wrong? BB

BB, I take it you are using the 'Browse' button as per image below to navigate to your saved avatar image.

.

If you are, then are you doing this on a Windows PC or something else like a Mac or iPad. The reason I ask is that some Apple image file formats can be different and not supported on the forum.

I have the "Browse" button on my W10 machine (Firefox) and the "Choose File" one on the Mac (Safari), but there is no "Upload" button on either machine (browser). R-

On a Windows PC there is no need for a specific 'Upload' button. On my PC, when I click the 'browse' button (highlighted in my previous reply). A traditional Windows file navigation Window opens. I navigate to the file, highlight (select) it and click the 'Open' button in the bottom right hand corner of the file navigation window pane. Clicking 'Open' closes the pane and automatically uploads the file in one single activity.

PS - BB, just in case you are trying to 'Drag n Drop' your image onto the Avatar box. 'Drag n Drop' is not supported.

Up to the "click Open" part I'm with you, after that the navigation pane to give this. You can see the file name I have selected, but no uploading starts. R-

EDIT: I've just discovered that the 2nd attampt at your process Chris, works as described. I shall now attempt to change the avatar to something a little better than this test image. R-

Darn, all that did was take my test image out. I cannot for the life of me get anything else to "take". I'll log out in a moment to see if that triggers a reset. Then I'll take the dog out, then I'll have a cuppa, then I'll try again. R-

That's why I was reluctant to do a test upload myself to prove my reply, in case there was a fault in the forum SW and I couldn't restore my Avatar.

.

I don't know the answer to this question, but I wonder if there is an Avatar change limit in the same way as there is a 'user name' change limit i.e one original plus one change. I am already on my second Avatar, hence my reluctance to experiment.

I can’t help you either as if I fiddle with my avatar or signature I lose my live link and only Adam can fix that.

I would report it in to him In case it is a system fault.

I use Windows 10 - I get a box with "Choose" - when I click on that it takes me to my files - either download or pictures, when I click on the picture, the jpeg code comes up on the Hornby site next to the box with Choose written in it - I assume I then go to the bottom of the page where it says "save you details" and click - and it says you have nothing to save - I don't have a "browse" button. Please don't get in a panic over it - just thought I'd try and use the avatar I use alsewhere.

Hi BB. When you get a moment go to your pictures folder and pull your chosen image into Paint. Go to "Resize" and change the properties to 100x100 pixels. Make sure you do not leave is as 100x100%. Unfortunately the uploader does not inform you that there is anything wrong with your chosen image but my guess is that yours, like mine, was just to big. Try again. R-

No it does require Admin approval if you haven't got 'instant image posting rights'. I remember one forum member having to wait several days fo his to be approved (Admin probably very busy at that time, or having a couple of days off). Hopefully should be acted upon tomorrow.
