A4 Sir Charles Newton 4901 Model no. R2338

I inherited 4901 Sir Charles Newton from my elderly neighbour. The engine runs then slows down or stops and will then go again and continually stop or slow down and start again at its proper speed. Is there an obvious fault to be rectified and if so how do i go about it?.

 Hi John

The loco is a super detailed version with a 5 pole skew wound motor made 2004 - 07 and is DCC Ready.

Has it had a chip fitted? if not it is showing the signs that a wire has become detached or has broken or the blanking plate is loose fitted.

Remove the loco body and have a look to see if you can see a loose wire  and that the blanking plate is pushed home if a chip has not been fitted. If a chip has been fitted it could be the chip is developing a fault

 Hi John

Have a look at service sheet 275E which covers your loco. I have to correct myself it is not a dcc ready loco going by the service sheet, so having a faulty wire is a suspect however the tender coupling to the loco could also be the faulty as it appears to pick up from the tender as well as the loco.
