The Captain90
Would like to fit a sound decoder to my BR Class 47 Co-Co Diesel that came with my Majestic set. Do I need a combined DCC/Sound Decoder to replace the existing decoder or can I just put in a sound decoder with the DCC decoder that is already there. Any recommendations as to decoder type/brand would be great.
Howbi
@Captain........the disadvantage of using a Sound only decoder alongside the motor decoder is that it is of poorer quality because it is not linked directly to the motor & speed response...........so it will be far better and much easier to simply unplug your existing decoder and replace with a pukka 8 pin sound decoder...........you have a choice of the popular best quality £100 decoders or for about £55 look at the MyLocosound product......your existing decoder is not wasted and could be used in another DCC ready purchase.....HB
Chrissaf
Soundtrax (an American DCC Sound Decoder company) have just entered the UK market with a budget range of generic UK loco sound DCC decoders circa £55. Appreciate Captain that you are Aussie based, but presumably modelling Hornby UK image based on your post above re: Class 47..Check out the Soundtrax Econami Range offered by this UK supplier. Soundtrax may have an Aussie distributor too..PS - HB is right. Best to replace existing decoder with a complete sound one, else sounds won't be synchronised to motor control.
