Ratch Posted March 14, 2016 Share Posted March 14, 2016 Spitfire PR.XIX (A02017) PS852 of No. 81 Squadron Kai Tak, Hong Kong, January 1951http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24706940/412292405.jpgJust before Christmas 1950, a detachment of two PR.XIX Spitfires from No. 81 Squadron (based in Tenagh, Singapore) was posted to RAF Kai Tak in Hong Kong to undertake clandestine reconnaissance missions over communist China. Flight Lieutenant Edward ‘Ted’ Powles flew PS852 in this role throughout 1951, mainly operating over Chinese coastal areas, sometimes as far as the island of Hainan, at the extreme range of the aircraft.http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL761/13303934/24706940/412292397.jpgPS852 initially carried the MSG over PRU Blue scheme, with the black anti-glare panel. D Type roundels with white serials on the lower wing surfaces. During its stay at Kai Tak, the aircraft was repainted in aluminium (not NMF) with a modified outline to the anti-glare panel.
