Ilikesabeer
I bought this model during the black Friday sale but have only just opened it.I have noticed that all the transparent parts of which there are many are pretty much plain. They don't have any struts moulded in which can be masked of. The underside ball turret alone is going to be a nightmare to paint with nothing to follow. Is this a generally poor moulded model or I have just got a bad one. Any tips for the transparent parts as there doesn't appear to be any masks on the market for this model? Oliver Hyett
Hi beerI acquired a set of thin marker pens which are great if you have a steady hand because they don't come off once on unless you try to rub them off.If you have the money I would invest it into buying a set of these.hope this helps 😉
paul-muc
You could use thin stripes of masking tape. So, instead of masking the clear parts, you mask the struts. Paint the stripes before applying them.
John Symmons
Use the painted masking tape method, just ensure you use nice thin tape not the Tamiya ones as you might find the paint comes off easily. Find a good profile and scan it into a picture editor and resize it to 72nd scale to act as a guide. It's these problems that make us modellers and not kit assemblers, Hope this helps, good luck.Remember we do this for fun John the Pom
Dad Paul B
The B24 was first tooled in 1963 (source 60 years of Airfix kits) so it is hardly surprising the detail definition is significantly lower than modern toolings. Depending on how steady you think your hand is you could try painting by hand (before fixing the canopies in position). For thin, straight lines this is not as difficult as it sounds. Not sure what the mould was like when fresh but shallow details like the relief for the frames could well have been eroded over 50 years. Also I am not sure if 'Rosie the Riveter' got at the mould for the raised 'rivet' detail in the 70s. I am interested in seeing this build if you want to put photos in an 'Aircraft' thread. peebeep
Personally I favour painted decal film rather than masking tape, it's thinner than tape and once sealed with glossy acrylic varnish is unlikely to come off. Paint the decal film the required colour then cut it into the required thickness.
