Angel moon
Hi there, I have a rather old (1990s) Horby GWR Class 2800 with a smoke generator and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to produce a larger volume of smoke? I am using a basic DC setup iwth a HM 2000 contoller and the loco has been cleaned and serviced very recently. It does produce some smoke, but only a small trickle which is barely noticable when running at speed. At low speed it barely produces any at all. Any tips? Thanks in advance!! :)
Ruffnut Thorston
Be Careful! These smoke units can overheat, and sometimes melt the body as well! Someone once tried to make a unit in a Schools Class make more smoke, and melted the top of the smokebox around the chimney! Are you using the "proper" smoke oil? Angel moon
I am using Seuthe Oil from Germany. I melted the body fairly early on in the loco's life but I replaced it and havent had any problems since. Just cant run the loco at full power with no oil in it, or so Ive read. trainlover23
Or better still take the smoke unit out and stop any chance of ruining your loco. They are famous for sagging front ends.

You shouldn't run it at all with no oil.
