roy_fitzsimmonds Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 I see admin pop in occasionally now and answer some questions.Mine is a question thast I'm sure a lot of car modellers are wondering: Are the any plans for any 'proper' NEW car kits in the pipeline? Not re-pops of older stuff such as the DB5 etc, but actual, new kits? The DBR9 and Jaguar XKR wre a real treat. How about something else?Any chance of a reply?
Botan Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 New models and projects are closely held secrets and I'm not able to confirm any new releases here (cars or otherwise). Announcements are made, traditionally, at the end of the year but also at the larger shows and, occasionally, on the Workbench blog. This is obvious you can reveal anything on your own, however you can pass idea to reveal some generic information like "ship in xxx scale next year" sometimes.
MG Writer Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 These are fair questions but I appreciate there is some need for keeping a degree of confidentiality regarding big commercial decisions. However the lack of any crumbs is equally frustrating. Some makers in Japan which I could mention are quite forthcoming, but then they also make and regularly add to their car kit ranges! In my opinion, for what that is worth, Airfix could enter the fray in a modest way by tooling something in the popular British classic car line but taking care not to just duplicate the models made by others (obvious examples of that include the classic and modern Mini saloons, the Jaguar E Type, London Taxi). The potential choice, as suggested elsewhere on this forum, is enormous and I am sure that a bit of market research would be needed, but if a deal could be done with another friendly kit company, then maybe a collaboration could lead to a wider portfolio and maybe Airfix could sell them some sprues too in return! Maybe a cheaper way in could be to do something that mixes old with new, such as making a Mini Traveller that matches a new bodyshell and a limited number of newly tooled parts with, say, Mini saloon sprues bought in from Revell or Tamiya. Likewise an MGB GT that married a new bodyshell to the Aoshima/Airfix/Heller MGB Roadster sprues.
