replacement motor

I have an 0-6-0 R2165B but it needs a new motor. I cannot get the right motor, X8246 but I would like to know if I can replace it with X8256 (motor and worm gear)? Since I am in Canada I cannot go to a Hornby store to compare

Thanks

Welcome to the forum Canuk...

I can't find you one, but Peters spares, although out of stock, has a picture of X8246.

They do have X8259 in stock (for the 0-6-0 J94) with a picture to compare against.

Nil return on a search for the X8256 motor.

The motors are of the same generic type by the looks of it, but the worm may be different pitch.

Applicable Hornby service sheets are 216 for the Terrier and 211 & 385 for the J94. Download from this site.

I hope this helps or you could try contacting Peter's Spares to discuss interchangability as they are both knowledgable and helpful.

Well looks like I've hit the wall. Seems HornbyDoesn't make this anymore and they do not have spare parts. I have tried to find a replacement but there seems to be none. Too bad that after spending good coin on this engine I am forced to retire it to a shelf. I guess I should have stayed with Asian or american made engines as they are repairable with lots of interchangeable parts. Thanks to all, if anyone has another suggestion, please post

 Thanks

That was why I suggested contacting Peter's spares and asking their advice WTD.

This whole motor thing is crying out for a database of each basic device along with what it fits when assembled with which gear/worm/pinion/flywheel/etc.

I'm sure many of the Hornby motors are duplicated and simply renumbered for the next loco it was used on.

Fortunately (for me) such a compilation task is outwith my knowledge base - as they say.

 Hi

The Ex Dapol Terrier has a standard 3 pole M7 motor, the issue is the worm drive is different to others that are available, If you can get the worm drive if the old motor shaft it should fit a new motor shaft.

This is the problem of continual changing motors, worm and drive cogs
