Rocketcooper2000
Accessory decoder not responding. Attempted reset cv8 to 8 and readressed. Any ideas. One of the ports( 1) is occasionally making the point motor 'pip pip' sporadically and has done this before. Im guessing the decoder is faulty umless there is a fix' Thanks for help anyone.. Otherwise hornby will hopefully replace. Mark

Chrissaf
Personally, I'm not particularly enamored with the quality of Hornby's R8247 Accessory Decoder. They are prone to being electronically damaged when transient short circuits occur elsewhere on the track. I've had to replace one of my own due to short circuit induced damage in the past..If you have tried the CV8 = 8 tip and that hasn't worked, then it does seem as if it is a deceased decoder (think Monty Python dead parrot sketch). Fishmanoz
I'm with Chris on this one, never been the most reliable of Hornby's products, even after more than 12 months off the market a while back. But a little more info would be good Rc before we write it off. What controller arrangement are you using, clearly not Select? Has it ever worked, either on default ports 1-4 or after you've programmed to another address range? If it has worked, did anything in particular happen before I stopped, like a short on the layout? And describe what you've done to try to get it going in more detail please?
96RAF
Also did you have a solenoid connected to a port whilst programming it. Can you read back the address group. We are assuming R8247 but might it be an R8216 older acc decoder, which is more finicky to setup.
Rocketcooper2000
OK its an r8216..Ive got a dynamisCant read cv but can programmeHas been working quite happily for a while. The pip pip' sound from the solenoid at Port one which is obviously mot normal, has being there on and off for a couple of weeks but upon reprogramming was OK but came back and now the unit does not respond.Ive tried other address ranges. Erm I have the odd short out occasionally in the past, (doesn't everyone lol) but always worked ok... Occasionally when I was reconfigurung loco cv s I mucked up the settings on the unit when I forgot to disconnect it. But always worked again after reset etc. Just now not working after usual fixs. Im thinking its a deader!
96RAF
The R8216 needs setting up different from the R8247. Either search the forum for R8216 or take a look here for starters:https://www.hornby.com/uk-en/forum/access-decoder-r216/
