Hornby tinplate on modern Peco O gauge track

Hi

Having previously been involved in OO and N gauge, I have recently turned my attention to the garden and the possibility of running O gauge. I have acquired some Hornby tinplate clockwork 0-4-0 locomotives and rolling stock, which I think date from the 1930s to 1950s, and now I want to purchase some track. I want some flexible track along with one curved turnout, as the space is limited. Peco has bullhead code 124 rail and flat bottom code 143 rail. What I would like to know is whether the old Hornby stock will run successfully on these two types of track and whether one is better than the other. Bullhead would appear better for the era to be modelled, though I want to ensure that there is no compatibility issues with wheel flanges or the like before I make my purchase.

Any help with this query would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Trev.

My garden railway (see attached) on which I run Hornby O tinplate as well as Bassett Lowke, Darsted  and ACE Trains is laid with pre-War code 200 rail in whitemetal chairs on wood sleepers and modern code 200 bullhead rail in moulded PVC sleeper / chair bases. This is sold for 16mm NG by 'Tenmille' .

Hornby Gauge O wagons originally had hollow pressed tinplate wheels on steel axles. These were eventually replaced with finer plastic wheels. All were loose on the axle held to gauge by a 'gag'. However even the plastic ones strike the chairs / sleepers on Peco code 124 track, althoughg not so badly. They will NOT pass Peco points at all.

Post War wagons with plastic wheels will run on two rail electrified track, but of course Pre-War ones were designed for Three Rail / Clockwork.  Locos always had metal wheel sets.

I will post a couple more pictures.
