poppasmurf
I've just bought a Duke of Gloucester TTS model, and I'm very pleased. However, when I try to run DoG, it takes about three seconds before it responds to my Elite controller, either in forward or reverse. Can anyone explain which setting I need to alter so that it responds immediately to the controller? Thanks in advance.
Chrissaf
Only 3 seconds.....you're lucky then....there are some on here who have complained about delays far longer than that with TTS models..I think you will find that with sound enabled models, some delay is normal..I don't have any TTS, but my Loksound sound locos can take five or more seconds for the sounds to cycle through their start up process to the point of pulling away. For example, building up diesel engine revs. Steam locos opening valves and letting off steam etc..PS - With my Loksound locos, if I run them with the sound disabled, then they do respond instantly to the controller. See if your TTS does too....
NormanQ4
My Cock o the North is exactly the same and it seams quite natural to me.
Britannia Builder
CV 201 controls the start delay - the default is 25 for 2.5 seconds delay. Set it to 0 for no delay. Regards, John
96RAF
Please read the manual that came with your DoG. it clearly describes changing the start delay from the 2.5 second default down to zero the minimum or up to seven the maximum and what happens to the sound when you do. It also warns that accel/decell default value must be 15 or more, else the sound will be affected.
Chrissaf
Further to Rob's post.Extract from DOG guide with relevant text highlighted as to what is deemed normal by Hornby. If you change CV201 to Zero, then sound may not sound natural as NormanQ4 intimated..CV201 Start Delay:When the locomotive starts there is a particular sequence of sounds played. i.e. Back Ground Idle steam will fade in to the sound of the cylinder cocks, then chuffing will commence. This CV controls when the locomotive actually starts to move after the throttle is applied from stationary. The default is 2.5 seconds. When left in default settings the locomotive will move just about halfway through the cylinder cock sound. The maximum delay duration is 7 seconds. The value range for this CV is 0-70. Zero being no delay and 70 being the maximum value of 7 seconds.

poppasmurf
Thanks for the info lads. I hadn't realised the leaflet that came with the loco contained all the information I needed. I shall dig the box out and have a read this evening.
96RAF
I scan them into the pc and blow them up on screen as my eyes aren't up to reading tiny print like that Some of the 'leaflet/manuals' are available for download if you can find them - some from the main TTS page, some on individual locos pages and some in Downloads. Chrissaf
The DoG is one of the few TTS locos for which the leaflet is downloadable from the Hornby site. The download link is hidden away on the loco product page. But here is a direct clickable link.https://www.hornby.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/DoG-Sound-Decoder-Manual-WEB.pdf.PS."I hadn't realised the leaflet that came with the loco contained all the information I needed.".The leaflets normally do...... mjb1961
This is normal for all TTS steam locos ,on my controller which isn't select or elite I tend to turn the speed dial up to 5 or 6. in 128 steps and wait for the train to respond and then slowly increase the speed ,it works very well for me anyway ,also I have on all of my 5 TTS steam locos changed the motor control setting to agorythm 2 and this helps quite a lot if you find the loco is jerky on start or slow moving ,,,,,
96RAF
Further to Chris's link to the DoG TTS manual, I have trawled the TTS shop page and it appears that every TTS loco listed has a downloadable manual except King George 1 - R3384TTS and Merchant Navy R3382TTS. One oddball I found was 2 Railroad Class 47's are listed on the TTS page, both with the same running number 47401, but under different R3287TTS and R3393TTS numbers, both of which have manuals. There are also manuals for the Loksound sound 'full-fat' decoders v3.0, v3.5 and v4.0 downloadable from the main Downloads area.
Chrissaf
Rob, now you know where they are. Why not download them all and post to your website for easy access......just a thought for your consideration.
96RAF
Rob, now you know where they are. Why not download them all and post to your website for easy access......just a thought for your consideration. Good idea Chris, but that ISP freebie site on a tight budget - 20Mb limit afore charging kicks in, so I would have to 'hide' the 'heavy file' bits on my other web-sites (nothing to do with model railways) as I did with the Elite firmware and associated manuals downloads. Worth looking at though, when I get a spare moment.- today's idle retirement was taken up with painting the gazebo frame, interupted by reporting to the local police station that the school bus had knocked over the back gate post on our housing complex, and reminding our Management Agency that we (The Admin Committee) pay him (His Agency) to do all the graft not us, else his monthly cheque may be stopped. This was after I had provided him with pictures of the dunched gate post, pictures of various bits of broken bus that were lying around, pictures of the bus that had been partially mended, but was still missing the previously photographed broken bits. Oh - and resetting the timers for our street lights, once I had found them and found out from the internet how to do it. Next job is to re-commission the powered gates front and rear of the complex - thanks to the good old interweb again. Apart from that it was just keeping pace with my normal life in the sun - a couple of beers, read a book, have a snooze, etc.
Chrissaf
OK Plan B.What about leaving them where they are, but just post hyperlinks back to them on your website. I would suggest just making a post here with the hyperlinks in, but unless it is a sticky it soon disappears off the page as it goes down the rankings..PS - can you bottle up some sunshine and send it back to blighty. Forecast is for winds from the Arctic for this weekend.
