Ejector Seats

I wondered if anyone out there is knowledgable on Ejector Seats or knows a good web site for specialist information. I've wondered for a long time about exactly what ejector seat has been fitted to which aircraft since the advent of the jet age. The colours of each are also important for anyone doing serious modelling, the days of painting every one of them black seem to be over even with Airfix instruction sheets.

One aspect of seat colours that is a bit of a mystery to me is headrests? These are often depicted on older US aircraft as being bright red while on the ground, but don't seem to be this colour when photographed in flight. I wondered if some kind of cover is fitted by ground crew to indicate the seat is 'live' and to exercise due caution. Are there any ex air force bods or ejector seat aficionados who know the details about this?

I read a lot of Modelling Mags and see a lot of kit reviews. Most of them are fairly interesting and colourful but tend to cover the same old ground time after time. There often seems to be little information about cockpit colours, other internal details, pilot uniforms, and weapons. Perhaps with a bit of a nudge from people on this forum we could see more info like this in the Airfix Mag.

Hi jobpres57

A good website for Ejection seats is the ejection site. Com. This gives loads of info and some good pictures. A lot of seats today are still good old black colour, but there are a lot that are in various shades of grey. Headrests are another  area that varies with type and manufactuer. I think if you have a look on Martin Bakers site you should get some pictures of mostly modern seats. I hope this helps

cheers
