Hey,

Got an email today stating that Locomotion at Shildon have commissioned Hornby to to make a Limited Edition of just 250 pieces of Class 71 #E5001. This has been done in the proposed livery for the prototype after restoration.

Looks like a lovely model, some say it's toyish but I put it down to the colour and lighting issues.

I hope to get one if I can raise enough funds in time. You can order it from their website of call them.

Available from 1st July.

Sorry, you lost me WTD. Hornby are producing a model as per the NRM original - why would Shildon (NRM) want a "limited edition" of a model already being produced? May be I missed something? BB

This doesn't look any different from R3373, the NRM version Hornby are producing? I expect it will cost more.

What do you mean? The difference is glaring right back at you... Not to mention there's a clue glaring at you in my OP. R3373 portrays the loco during it's NRM guise we all know/see. However as many will know it's not in the best shape. It looks battered. The livery it carried being BR Green with SYP.

This NRM Limited Edition Class 71 carries the livery that NRM are going to apply to it after it's restored or redone. This livery is BR Green. The NRM model carries a BR Green livery with a gloss coat. Judging from the GWR King Class that NRM commissioned before, I'm sure this will be a splendid model. If the GWR King flew off the shelves then why not this?

I've looked at the photos on Locomotion's Facebook page and Locomotionmodels and I can't see any difference between their limited edition model and the R3373.

It's £20.00 more expensive than the Hornby one (with club discount of course). Having looked at both - they do look very similar in clour - except for yellow ends on the Hornby model - I might buy one for the collection.

 Hi WTD

The class 71 was not an overhead electric in the usual sense. It was a 3rd rail electric, and the pantagraph/overhead were only used in yards, where it could be a danger to staff on the ground.

It's a green box on wheels.

It actually reminds me of a slug or leech!  😆 on wheels...

It does a bit.  😉
