rossi_henshall
Well...After watching several Youtube videos I got the courage to completely strip down "Western Harrier."Cleaned and added new brushes and springs. It came to life, albeit slowly, slowly. It did a few circuits but screeched itself to a slow halt. Then greased the pin (through to the com with small cog attached) and off it went again, this time at a fair rate of knots. Now run for an hour without problems. It probably didn't like being boxed in an attic for many many years! So glad the chats about being damaged by DCC contact were unfounded. Now for the class 25's!!! Ruffnut Thorston
The older motors can at least be repaired, new brushes fitted, etc... Congratulations on joining the "Works" team! 😉 You'll be reading Service sheets and Maintenance Instructions for Bed-Time reading next! 😉

james_nelmes
For older ringfield motors, it can also be worth removing the wheels and axles, and cleaning out the axle tubes with a pipe cleaner soaked in an appropriate solvent such as iso-propyl alchohol.I have also successfully re-mag'd a ringfield magnet - North is typically at the top of the magnet. rossi_henshall
Thanks for the replies. To be honest I never thought I'd strip an engine down until Youtube DIY came to my attention. Now I can't stop!(See my frustration on the Lima spares topic...when its up and running.) ☹️
