New to E-Link

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I'm Dave.

I'm totally new to DCC so a little patience please.

I was bought and brand new Western Master - Digital (R1173) E-Link as a recent birthday present.  I just today put a simple oval together for the first time, then loaded the SW to my Laptop.  Named the engine and followed all the connection instructions to the letter and hey presto - it don't work!  I messed with it for at least two hours - the engine still won't budge.

No 'Port' problems with the laptop, a good link between laptop and E-Link controller. And no other related PC type issues.  Yet the damn engine remains rooted to the ^$%*?!... spot.

Has anyone else suffered this frustration?  If you got it going, PLEASE tell me how you did it.  Thank you.

Dave

Hi Dave,

Welcome to the Forum. I have an Elite controller with Railmaster software - not Elink. However, I suggest you have a read of these instructions which are posted in the Railmaster section of this Forum and follow every item implicitly, then you may have  a chance  😆

(Can someone tell me how to paste in a link which is clickable please?)

By the way, Dave, did you make any attempt to change the address of your loco? - if not, it will still have the default factory setting of 0003.

Look at the last 8 minutes of this video

.

No 'Port' problems with the laptop, a good link between laptop and E-Link controller. And no other related PC type issues.

.

Is the Controller icon (looks like an audio cassette tape) in the top right hand corner of Railmaster, showing a steady green. If it is greyed out, then you probably do not have a connection between RM and eLink. If you hover the cursor over the icon you should see a connection status message.

.

EDIT: As per Rays request....

 Hi all.

IT WORKED... Thank you to Ray and all.  I had not used the 'Administrator' tab in the compatibility page.  So all along I was thinking the set was 'duff'!  And all the time it was a simple SW issue.  I guess that is simply just a sign of the times these days haha.  It was so much more straight forward in my 'kiddy' days.  I can only just about temember that far back ha.

The birthday I mentioned was my 65th!  Anyway, thank you again to everyone who was kind enough to advise me on the error of my ways.  I'm a happy old boy now.

Kind regards,

Dave
