rayarpino
My Hornby Q6 arrived yesterday in LNER livery and I consider it to be a delightful model. It runs very well and the detail is crisp, but I do believe the representation of the boiler bands are really overscale and I do not understand this as the boiler appears smooth on photographs.Whatever, I plan to return it to its NER black goods livery with red lining and I shall perhaps have to shave off the boiler bands. Can anyone tell me where I can find colour drawings of this livery or a full set of photos of the preserved engine when it was in NER lined livery. I have been Googling like made but strangely can't find very much that helps. Any advice is of course welcome.
walkingthedog
I have the loco and I think it is delightful. On the LNER encyclopaedia and other on line pictures I think the boiler bands are very obvious so I reckon the Hornby portrayal is about right. Postman Prat
Hi Sarah That 'photographic grey' is just that. The Q6s were only ever black. I posted one or two other points a few days ago regarding backdating this model too far. The LNER Encyclopaedia forum is worth a quick read on this

rayarpino
Hi again WTD,I have purchased some red lining from HMRS but haven't applied it yet. I do hope it is fresh stock since I have had problems in the past with Pressfix that didn't stick any more. I was thinking of having a look for very fine opaque pens from an artists's shop but haven't got round to it yet. I haven't actually started the project but in any case, I will not be attempting a shiny factory fresh finish as seen on the photos. Custom-made plates have been ordered from NarrowPlanet and I have had a good experience with them in the past. But custom-made means a six-week wait, but they will come on last, any way. I also intend to give it a little weathering using ground hard pastels.I'll post a photo or two when all is done.Cheers,RayPS: what kind of dog do you walk? Mine's a Flying Scottie... What else? walkingthedog
He was a black Labrador but as of March is no longer with us. So now I'm just MWTD, M=Missing. Lab puppy arriving in November, hopefully. SWMBO loves scotties. They're great characters.

Dave_67
I notice that in note '2' of the R3424 instructions , mention is made of 'vac pipes IF included '.Is it the case that this is a generic note and that the prototype Q6 did not did not have front vac pipes.Hoping that I have not mislaid these items .RegardsDave
Postman Prat
The Q6s were not fitted with train brakes, just loco and tender. Typical for mineral traffic at that time. Therefore vacuun pipes are not required - they were omitted from the box on mine. 😎
Dave_67
Postman Prat , thankyou for the response , much appreciated. As I am in my mid 70s , I am relieved notto have to search the carpet for small items that may have dropped from the accessory pack.Dave
