FinnerZ
When converting my Networker with lights, I found I had two worries together - first, the usual one of damaging the decoder or wiring badly. However, this particular conversion also had the worry of not damaging the lights or pulling any of the wires out of the mini circuit board, and this made me think. Is there produced a blank DCC 8 pin socket that all the lights and motor connectsions can be wired to without having to worry about decoder damage etc. at that stage. This way, the normally tricky part of adding the actaully decoder will be the same as that of a DCC ready loco. I think that this would have helped me quite a bit with this latest project. (It did work but I think just needs a bit of running on a DCC circuit rather than a straight test track.)
37lover
I'll put you out of your misery and say yes you can get prewired 8 pin sockets, unfortunately I can't remember where I purchased mine from! Do a google search for NEM 652. The item number of the product I bought was 51950.
Blackbird
8 pin DCC sockets are available but they have to be correctly wired/connected to the loco, which is no diferent to directly wiring the decoder. Only advantage is the the decoder is detachable.
